REACHING 200 - WHAT IT MEANS
What is Reaching 200?
More than 2,000 language groups, constituting some 340 million people, do not have the Bible in their language.
These are more than statistics. Each of these 340 million people is a life that could be transformed by the Word through the Holy Spirit. Each person is a link to a family and community that could come to worship Jesus and glorify God’s name. Jesus’ Great Commission compels us to reach out to all nations with the gospel.
Vision 2025 is the Global Church’s challenge to see a Bible translation programme in progress for every people group that needs it by 2025.
Reaching 200 is Wycliffe Singapore's response to this global challenge:
By 2025, in partnership with the Singapore Church, Wycliffe Singapore will be engaged in 200 languages needing a Bible translation programme.
What is Wycliffe Singapore’s role in Reaching 200?
Wycliffe Singapore, part of the Wycliffe Global Alliance, serves to facilitate this partnership between the Singapore Church and translation projects around the world by identifying projects to present as partnership opportunities to Singapore churches and Christians and linking them with the Reaching 200 projects.
What does a Reaching 200 project look like?
Reaching 200 projects vary according to the profile and needs of the communities. A typical Reaching 200 project includes the following components:
Bible Translation. Translators start from Bible stories that the people can relate to and work their way verse by verse, chapter by chapter, book by book until the New Testament is completed. This process could span 10 years! At times, project teams might start with Old Testament chapters.
Community Development. Literacy programmes enable minority communities to learn to read and write in their own languages.
Scripture Engagement. Scripture production and distribution is crucial to ensure that communities are able to receive translated Scriptures through printed or oral forms. Various global partners, such as Faith Comes by Hearing collaborate on such projects.
