What has Bible translation to do with real life? Everything!

Without the Bible, a person can still know of God's plan of salvation if someone shares the Gospel with him or her. But to know God and grow in Him, the believer needs to know God's Word.

The ministry of Wycliffe Bible Translators is to facilitate new Bible translation projects around the world. Research has shown that the best way for people to learn is through the heart language, or mother tongue. Wycliffe Singapore partners with local churches and networks with other agencies to achieve this task. We mobilise churches, recruit personnel, raise funds and promote prayer for the vital task of reaching those who do not yet have the Bible in their own language.

Our members are trained in linguistics and cross-cultural skills so that they might become effective ambassadors of the Lord. Though our primary focus is to bring the translated Word of God to the Bibleless unreached people groups, we have other supporting ministries such as literacy, IT support and maintenance and community development, which combine to form a vital holistic approach to reach the unreached. We believe the Word of God can transform lives, and thereby transform the world.

A Brief History

Wycliffe Bible Translators (Singapore) was incorporated on 27 December 1983. We are part of a larger family, Wycliffe International. Worldwide, Wycliffe has 12,000 expatriate and national workers from more than 60 countries. We praise God for His enabling and empowering. Over the years, He has led many churches to come alongside Wycliffe, partnering us for the cause of Christ, pushing missions further afield for the sake of the Bibleless Unreached People Groups (UPGs).

Wycliffe Singapore members have been privileged to be a part of:

  • The translation of Mauwake New Testament (completed: 1999)

  • The revision of Daga New Testament (completed: 2005)

  • The distribution and promotion of Kagayanen New Testament and Genesis (completed: 2008)

  • Bilingual education for a community in East Asia (2007 - 2009)

  • Orthography development and production of books for a people group in South Asia (2009)
